DECORATIONS: Your predominate colors are pink, white, silver, gold, pearl or lavendar. Cover the front door entrance with a colored plastic tablecloth. Spell out "Welcome To Our Party" in gold letters found at office supply stores. Avoid any names or ages so it may be recycled. A 14" X 72" banner that announces "It's A Party" and a bubble machine that shoots out a steady stream of bubble clouds for nice added atmosphere. Both available for rent from Miss Priss Clown Entertainment. Use helium balloon-columns anchored by the front door and other thresholds. Your anchors are water balloons incased in toulling. Don't forget long curly streamers. Maybe wide ribbon this time. I'm sure they have Mylar Barbie balloons to follow your theme. Special attention is given to the table setting with this party as well as the Dress-up Tea Party. I just love the idea of using those clear plastic champagne glasses with a pearl necklace draped over the sides. Use bracelets as napkin rings, and a ring around their eating utensil. White or gold paper doilies under everything. These are also at party supply stores.
REFRESHMENTS: The Cake- Purchase shortbread cakes. Usually they can be found by the strawberries in the produce section. Stack two on top of each other with strawberry jelly spread in the middle. Stick half a Barbie doll down thru the center. Those are in cake decorating departments. Proceed to frost the "skirt". Let the guests do it! This can be an activity if you so choose. (Or, if you don't have the time to do it.) Imagine that! Sprinkle with sprinkles! Goop it up real good with other decorator items. Serve with fresh strawberries.
Beverages- If Barbie's fav color is pink, serve pink lemonade, or drop some food coloring in ginger-ale or other clear bubbly-type drinks. 7-Up already has cherry flavor. Whip up some raspberry sherbert in your punch bowl for a frothy pink punch.
Foods- A food idea that is a great activity for Mom and the birthday girl to do together the night before, is make fruit kabobs. Mom cut up the strawberries, pineapple, cataloupe, honeydew or grapes and Daughter can skew them on there.
Pink Popcorn- 6 qts of popcorn 2 c. sugar 1 c. light corn syrup 2/3 c. margarine 2 packs pink or red *Kool-aid 1 t. soda
Boil the sugar, syrup and margarine together for 3 min. Stir in kool-aid and soda. Pour over 6 qts. of popcorn. Bake at 225 degrees for 45 min. Stir every 10 min. Remove from oven and break it up immediately.
Magic Pretzel Wands- 16 large pretzel rods 1 container ea. of chocolate and vanilla frosting or chips melted (they will harden better) pretty decorator sprinkles
Microwave the frosting or chips till smooth and creamy. Works better in the mic in short spurts stirring in-between. Dip just about 3 inches of your pretzel rod in the chocolate first. Then the white about 1or 2 inches. Lastly the sprinkles. Set up in the fridge on wax paper. Makes about 16 rods if they don't break or nobody eats them before time.
Magic Cookie Wands- Favorite sugar cookie dough confectioners' sugar food coloring Plastic straws handles
Roll out the dough and cut out star shapes with a cookie cutter. Bake according to specifications. As soon as the cookies come out they will still be soft to the touch, gently push your straw handles into the star. ICING: Sift confectioners' sugar into a bowl. Slowly add hot water stirring constantly. This should form a smooth glossy paste. Warning- a little water goes a long way. Don't get in a big hurry like me or you'll have two tons of frosting, trying to get the consistancy just right. Add a little red food coloring. Yummers. Slip the star part into a baggy and tie off with pretty pink curly ribbon.
ACTIVITIES TO CHOOSE FROM WITH MISS PRISS: I am here to paint your nails and noses! Maybe even your toeses! Facepainting is fun. Make-up is funner. If that's okay with Mom that is. I always carry nail polish, make-up and tattoos in my pink Barbie beauty kit. Don't forget the magic mirror. Accessories like balloon bracelets, balloon crowns and balloon wands are available if you prefer balloons as an activity for all your little "Princesses".
EXTRA ACTIVITIES TO MAKE OR DO: Candy Jewelry- Have your guests make their own bracelets or necklaces using candy. Licorice for the string. Cereal like fruit loops or life savers candy. Now they sell premade candy jewelry kits in the store.
Beauty Pagent- Make banners out of wide ribbon that say Miss Understood, Miss Informed, Interpreted...you get it. Next, have a talent show complete with a Karoke machine. ( I call it "croke" machine.) Also, have a modeling show complete with the runway.
Photo Shoot- Get out the Poloroid and the video camera. Have a Ken and Barbie photo shoot. Or use Dad. Stand outside by your nicely decorated front door.
EXTRA GAME IDEAS TO PLAY: Barbie Dress-Up- All the players sit in a circle along with dolls that have been stripped. Throw all the clothes in a center heap. The object of the game is to be the first player to correctly re-dress their friends doll.
Musical Barbie- Kind of like musical chairs but without the chairs. Pass around one Barbie, when the music stops, the player holding the doll is out. May also be reversed. Every player has a doll except one. Pass around the dolls, when the music stops, the person without a Barbie doll is out.
PARTY FAVORS: *The bracelet found for the napkin ring *The ring found around their eating utensil. *A little plastic purse from the dollar store to hold all of these take-home items.
