Hoppy Easter! Hoppy Resurrection Day! Easter marks the beginning of spring. It is also a sacred holiday for Christians, as it signifies when Jesus Christ was resurrected from the grave to live again. But how does the Easter bunny and eggs fit into this tradition?
The rabbit and eggs were actually symbols of fertility, immortality and new life to commemorate Christ's resurrection. In Germany, colored eggs were left in children's baskets. The custom was brought to America with German immigrants in the late 19th century.
Easter can be a fun time of year to celebrate the renewed growth of spring no matter what religious beliefs you may have. Here are some eggcellent ideas from Miss Priss to use for an Easter celebration- party.

Put your invitations directly inside those plastic eggs that seperate. They may actually be delivered to the class in a whole egg carton.
DECORATIONS: Pastel colors with the use of crosses, flowers, chicks, bunnies, easter grass and eggs are all things that apply to Easter.
REFRESHMENTS: The Cake- This is how yo make an egg-stra special "egg" shaped cake if you don't have an oval shaped pan. After two round cakes have cooled and then stacked on top of eachother, gently make two long cuts off center. This will leave a 2 1/2 rectangular strip out of the center of the cake. Slide the 2 halves back together. Place the long rectangular strips horizontally at the bottom of the oval. This will be frosted green like grass. Top off with green dyed coconut. The egg part can be decorated with the use of frosting, decorator gels in the tube, sliced gum drops, lemon drops, or M&M's. Be creative with zig-zag's, dots, stripes or loops.
Bunny Cake- Make-a-bake-a carrot cake-a. Use 2 round cake pans. One full cake is the round face the other cake is cut like baseball segments. This will form the ears and a bow tie. Assemble the pieces, frost with white frosting. Licorice for whiskers, dot the bow tie with M&M's. This is from Jeffery Winkler at Wendy's World of Crafts.
Bunny Foods- Rabbit Ice Cream Balls- For the cake we have ice cream. Scoop out a large ice cream ball for each of your guests. Roll the balls in coconut flakes and set each one in a flattened cupcake wrapper. Use black jelly beans for the rabbit's eyes and a red jelly bean for its nose with black licorice for the whiskers. Use halved vienna finger cookies for the rabbit's ears. Store ice cream balls in the freezer until they are ready to be served. When it's time to serve, tell each guest to close their eyes and say "abra-kid-abra" They'll be delighted when a rabbit magically appears in front of them!
Bird's Nests- 1 (10 oz) bag of Reeses peanut butter chips 1 T. solid shortening 1 lg.(5oz) can Lachoy thin chow mein noodles 1 bag M&M peanut candy
Melt entire bag of chips and 1 T of shortening slowly in micrewave or double boiler on stove top. If using microwave, be careful as not to overcook, this is easy to do. Immediately add the nooodles into the chips and toss lightly to coat noodles. Drop by spoonfuls onto wax paper and gently form into the shape of a nest. Drop your candy in the center for the birdy eggs. Makes approx. 14 nests. From Nancy Remson in Wendy's World of Crafts.
Easter Egg Nests- Using the Rice Krispies Marshmallow Treats recipe, shape them into nests and fill with green coconut and jellybean eggs.
Bird's Nest Cupcakes- Bake your favorite cupcake mix. When cool, frost with white or chocolate frosting. Decorate with coconut around the outside parameter of the cupcake. Put jellybeans in the middle. Coconut can be toasted if you prefer a brown nest. This is from Wendy's World of Crafts.

Children and adults enjoy watching and wondering "How in the world did she do that?" Many many to choose from. Not just dogs!

Games- If you would like to play games with Miss Priss as an activity there are no limits to which or how many games we can play. Just remember your time. Adult assistance is requested, as sometimes, two games are played at the same time. Some prizes included.
EASTER GAMES WITH MISS PRISS: Jellybean Guess- Every child gets the chance to guess how many pieces of candy are in a container. Whoever comes closest to the amount WINS the whole container!
Pin-the-Tail On the Bunny- While blindfolded, the child will attempt to get the target by placing a furry tail on the bunny.
Egg Toss- The object of the game is to successfully toss eggs into baskets placed at variable distances. Prizes are attached to the baskets.
It looks just like Miss Priss! We don't beat the heck out of this pinata! Instead, each player is given a cord attached to the pinata. Only one of the cords will release the trap door, thus releasing all of the candy and prizes. The other cords fall away. This pinata comes ready filled for $15.00. (Reusable to Miss Priss.)
EXTRA ACTIVITIES TO MAKE OR DO: Bunny Mask- This uses a white paper plate for the mask. Cut out eyes and nose in the plate. cut out bunny ears from pink paper and glue to the plate. Pipe cleaners for the whiskers, attach to the plate by poking through and knotting at the back or glue on. Use yarn or elastic to tie on both sides of the plate to hold on their heads.
Bunny Ears- Cut out bunny ears with white and pink construction paper. Two tones of brown may also be used for chocolate bunnies. The center of the bunnie's ears should be cut a bit smaller. Make a two inch band long enough to go around the child's head. Staple in place. Attach bunny ears at the back to the band.
Tissue Box Bunny- Either spray paint or wrap long tissue boxes with paper. Out of constuction paper, cut bunnie's ears and feet. Glue to the box. Stick a big cotton ball on one end of the box and paint the bunnies face on the other. Fill the box with plastic easter grass, candies and toys. For the sake of time, pieces and parts may be pre-made and simply assembled at the time of the party. This is a cute activity and may also be used as a take-home favor.
Egg Guess- Put several small objects inside some plastic eggs. Close them up tight and set them on a tray. Encourage the children to shake the eggs and try to guess what may be inside. After everyone is satisfied with their answers, open them up to reveal a prize.
Duck Pond- Put some plastic duckies in water. Maybe the bathtub, kitchen sink or outside in a wader pool. Write a prize number or color associated with a prize on the bottom of the rubber duckies. Pull them up and see what you WIN!
Eggshell Mosaic- On a piece of paper have the children draw a simple disign. Perhaps a cross, and egg, a flower or a balloon. Spread some thin glue inside the design area. Sprinkle bits of colored broken eggshell onto the glue. Allow to dry, then you can hang them up.
Jesus Jellybean Bags- Pick out jellybreans of the various colors and place them in a bag. Attach the following prayer;
EXTRA GAME IDEAS TO PLAY: Easter Egg Hunt- The number one fun game to play is to have an Easter egg hunt. Hide several prize filled plastic eggs inside or outside and hunt them down.
Egg Roll- Mark off a starting line and a finishing line anywhere from 5-10 feet apart. Using an egg, having the kids down on their hands and knees, roll the egg with their noses from the start all the way to the finishing line. First one there WINS!
Spoon Walk- Put an egg or a marshmallow on a spoon and walk across an area. To make it a bit harder, form an obstacle course. For round two, you can also play where you have to pass it to another player.
Egg Toss- This game is even more fun if you use an unboiled egg. Children form a tight circle or pair off. At the sound of the whistle, begin by gently tossing the egg one to another. Until one-by-one, "Oops, I dropped it!" Finally there is only one pair or one person remaining to be the winners!
Capture the Egg- This is an outdoor active game. It's the same as "capture the flag" only the Easter version. Divide the kids into two teams. Each team has four eggs. They place the eggs on the ground in a row in front of them. The object is for each team to run to the other teams side and "capture" their eggs one at a time, then safely return back to their own side without being touched by the opposing team. If they should get touched, they must freeze until one of their own team members can free them by touching them again on the shoulder. The first team to have captured all the opponents eggs WIN!
What Time is it Easter Bunny?- The children all line up against a wall or fence. One child, (Easter bunny) faces away from all the other players a good distance apart. The children yell, "what time is it Easter Bunny?" The bunny answers one o'clock, and the children all take one step toward easter bunny. The children yell again, "What time is it Easter Bunny?" Bunny answers (fill in the blank) o'clock, and the children all take same number of steps toward the easter bunny. This continues until all the children are very close to the bunny, then bunny will answer "it's midnight!", and Bun chases the children back to the fence that they started at. The first person easter bunny touches will be the new bunny.
Bunny, Bunny, Hop Hop- This game islike duck duck goose. Only the word has changed from duck to bunny and the children hop instead of run around the circle. Play this game by the children forming a sitting circle on the ground. One child (the bunny) sits in the center of the circle. His job is to rotate arouind the outer circle and select a new bunny my tapping him on the head. When the selected person is tapped, he must hop his way to catch the old bunny. If he is caught, then he becomes the bunny.
Fill It Up Race- Create a race course with a start and a finish line. Divide the children into two teams. The first player is given half a plasatic egg in which he must fill up with water. The object of the game is to run to the finish line where a cup is placed. S/he dumps the water from their egg into the cup and proceeds to run down the course and hand off the plastic egg half to the next player where he fills it up and runs down the course, dumps his water and runs back again. So on and so forth until the first team to have all their players complete the task WINS!
PARTY FAVORS: Party favor containers include miniature easter baskets that may be found at second hand stores. The contents include prizes from games and Easter activities played such as the Tissue Box Bunny. Pass the baskets out before the egg hunt begins.
